iThoughtsX - Mind Map App Reviews

Excellent MindMapping App

iThoughts for the iPad is one of my favorate “thinking” apps. I’ve been mindmapping for decades now and that iOS app is the best. This desktop version is highly welcome. It has a simple, clean, gets it done interface. I hope the developer keeps on improving this app. I’d like to see more Style Templates from the developer. I think it’s well priced for what it does. I’ve paid much more in the past for competitors and end up not using them as much.

Great Option for Mindmapping for One Dollar

For 0.99 USD, this app certainly lvied up to its price tag. Other softwares like OmniGraffle would cost a lot more that does not present a lot more than this. One cannot go wrong with buying this app. It looks like a good application that could satisfy a wide range of people and uses.

great mindmapper

iThoughtsX has always been my favorite commercial mind mapping software. Started using it on iPad years ago and then Mac OS X. Has many features including many export formats (click Share). Author keeps it fresh and updated. AND, thank you for the recent solid of making it available (economically) via App store to get the iCloud feature for us who bought it off your website originally.

Excellent integration with mobile devices

I started using this application because I loved it on both my iPhone and iPad. I dont’ use it for everything, but whenever I am confused, I find it helps me untangle things in a hurry, whether for writing, planning a class, or getting down my thoughts on some other issue. Its features can also allow one to manage projects, small or large. And its export/import features make it compatible with a whole slew of other applications and formats. Finally, the developer is responsive.

No better Mindmaping software for Apple environment - I’ve checked!

There are MANY alternatives when it comes to mindmapping - and we all know that mindmapping is the best tool for brainstorming, documenting processes, project conception, etc. In addition to this superior tool, just wait until you use the companion product on your iPad or iPhone. Yes, efficient mindmapping on that tiny screen! It works. The developer is one of the most professional I’ve witnessed in my almost-50-years in IT. The guy constantly improves, updates to new IOS/OSX, and tweaks to make more perfect without charging most anything for his improvements. I urge him to CHARGE MORE - he deserves it. Believe me, once you use this software, you will abandon it only after the developer sells or dies. Great stuff…and many thanks for all the hours this software has saved for me.

Top notch software at any price

iThoughtsX is a terrific mindmapping solution and works seemlessly with iThoughts (iOS) to support work across all my devices - been using them both for years. The developer works very hard to keep his products up to date and continues to add new features regularly. This is one of the best values in either App Store!

The Best Mindmapping Software Available!

I tried every mindmapping software I could find and iThoughts is by far the best. The author has been updating it regularly for the five years I’ve been using it.

Unparalleled!

This is an exceptional piece of software. Exquisitely crafted and a joy to use. I used MindManager for Windows before I switched to Mac five years ago but found it very difficult to find a good mind mapping application for Mac. Then I found iThoughts for iPhone and it became my favorit app. Now I’m delighted to be using iThoughtsX for Mac. This mind mapping tool is as good as it gets and compatible with many of the other major mind mapping applications including MindManager. The author is clearly a genius for designing an application that is not only easy to use but also a piece of art. It has a flow to the functionality that is unparalleled. I can be creative and forget I’m working with an application. With all its various backgrounds and colorful styles you can build a mindmap that people can’t take their eyes off and it syncs perfectly with the iOS version. If you are looking for a mind mapping tool this is the one to get.

the best mindmap app for mac

best mind map app for mac for these reasons: the abiltiy to choose the direction of branching in the map vertical or horizontal, the ability to export it to other mind map applications "this is fantastic", also and the most important is the auto-alignment and arrangement of the mind map when adding another child topic, so you do not need to rearrange the branches manually. ((believe me, it is a time saving app)) i hope from the developer add these missing features: control of the thickness of the line of links, adding direct editing buttons of font in the toolbar type, size, thickness & color, automatic coloring of each group parents, child topics, and finally and the most important is the ability to choose the size of canvas on export the map as an image pre sized format or manual selection of rise by pixels’’. also the ability to direct export of SVG format. another thing that i want to mention is the rapid response of the developer, i got a response in less than 12 hours, i want to say to him thank you.

great software, great developer

The software is well maintained and has been so since the earliest version. The author does a great job of adding useful features and bug fixes. If you try the free trial and determine it works for you, don’t hesitate to invest in it for of fear of paying for software from developer who does not take their product seriously. Two thumbs up.

Not just the best mind-mapping app, the best writing-thinking app

I find this app indespensible. Its the best for research, note-taking, and organizing text. All the tools you need for pulling together text and notes. Simple to arrange, re-arrange and group text. Clip directly from the web, or attach images, PDFs, other docs. Works with any other app in your workflow. Imports and exports in any format you can imagine -- from Markdown and OPML to PowerPoint. And PDF, of course -- if you want to present your outline as-is. Now with handoff and iCloud support so it works seamlessly with iThoughts on both phone and iPad. I use this app early in my writing process -- for brainstorming and organizing notes and research. I may stop there, or export to PDF to present directly from my map. For more polished work, once Ive got my structue Ill export to Markdown (or even Word, if youre so inclined) to switch to full-text wordsmithing.

Great app

This app does all I need it to do and it is very easy to use. I needed an app for a quick mindmap recently. I had used iThoughtsHD on my iPad, but wanted something for my Mac Air. I bought iThoughtsX and have been extremely pleased with how it works and all the great features included. Thanks.

The best organizing tool

Second to none.

Flexible and capable

iThoughts is the first mind map tool I have found effective. User interface is complete, simple and easy to use. You can create mind maps from a diverse set of other types of files such as Markdown and OPML as well as many mindmap formats. You can export quickly to a variety of formats, including web pages and Markdown. It is simple to drag and drop images or web links to topics and create visual representations of research.

Amazing and continually getting better

iThoughtsX and iThoughtsHD (iDevice) have become my favorite mindmapping tool after trying pretty much every one out there. Among its advantages: * Super fluid interface. Fast and intuitive to add, move, delete and edit nodes. Mouse or pure keyboard work great. * Mac—iOS sharing is seamless through any of several options. * Imports and exports to almost every format out there. The ability to go in and out of OPML and Markdown are particularly nice, but all of its import/exports are accurate, fast and thoughtfully done. For example, the Word export options include producing Headers, Bulletted List or a Table of 2 — 4 columns. * Produces good looking maps using any of its provided styles, which are easy to customize if desired. * An excellent tool for basic project management. Allows assigning start/due dates, resources, effort, priority and progress. Its easy to use child nodes as subtasks and set effort and/or progress of the parent node to "Rollup", which aggregates effort/progress for all of its children. This can work over multiple generations -- parents, children, grand children, etc. The ability to view or hide levels allows you to focus on specific parts of a project without being overwhelmed. I use it to track preparations to teach my classes each semester and it is more than sufficient. If more is needed, it can be exported to MS Project. * If you want to present directly in iThoughtsX, rather than exporting to PowerPoint, there is a simple, but powerful "Presentation" option that lets you make "Slides" in advance. Frankly, I find the combination of the AutoFit and Focus options suffice to manage a presentation most of the time. * Powerful filtering options to show (or hide) nodes based on text, task information, date of last modification, etc. Perhaps most impressively, the last three points, along with lots of other neat features, are all relatively recent additions. The developer is continuously adding new features, but at a considered enough pace that it never feels like the underlying functionality of the app is being muddled. He is also very responsive to support questions and feature requests. There are some cheaper options, but none of them have come close to iThoughtsXs functionality and polish—at least for my purposes. There are also much more expensive options, and I have to say that they also havent come close. For what it does and how well it does it, it is more than fairly priced.

Awesome, but beware V3.7 crashes on OSX 10.8

This is a very good mindmap app. The fact that it is cross platform between Mac and iOS makes it extrememly powerful. The App crashes on OSX 10.8. The developer has a fix submitted to Apple for release. Check the developers website for detailed.

So many uses!

I have been using iThoughtsX since graduate school, and now as a postdoc I still find it indispensable. Although it might seem on the surface that it’s interchangeable with something like MindNode, iThoughtsX excels in terms of: customer service from Craig, clippings from the web, export options into extremely diverse formats, flexible imports, links to all manner of documents from anywhere in one’s hard drive, project-completion tracking, presenter mode with snazzy-looking transitions (like Prezi, but manageable), gorgeous theming and customizability… I could go on forever, really. One of my favorite and most useful apps of all time. [[updated as of version 3.9: the new summary functionality is exceptional!]]

Outstanding application!

It does everything you need for drawing up ideas fast and efficient. Syncing, export and import and many other options make this app very flexible and powerful.

simply the best - nothing else is close

I have used mind maps for years. This and the IOS app are simply the best. Nothing comes close. Outstanding functionality and seamless interoperability. Thank you for your great product and all your dedication and support to enhancing it, Very much appreciated!!!!!!

Besides Evernote and Chrome, the most used app I have

I have been using ithoughtsx and ithoughtshd on an off over the years. However, over the past year, I have really discovered its power and having been using it more and more as the features get better and better. I have tried other mindmapping software and am continously impressed with how much better ithoughts is. The developer is very responsive to bugs and/or suggested features. Definitely worth every penny and much more.
